Transport Costs
The increasing price of fuel and current economic instability that is occurring around the world has caused many problems for a number of businesses working in different industries. Due to the surge in fuel price transport costs have risen sharply which has affected the import and export of goods. Filling fuel tanks for transports is very expensive, so some firms that normal import materials are turning to sources closer to home for the resources they need.
Also, the cost of imported goods and consumables that we may have previously taken for granted has risen, which has a knock on effect for the consumer. In your local supermarket you may have noticed that many imported foodstuffs have risen in price. It's certainly true that all foodstuffs have risen in price, but those which have had to travel further to reach you have certainly increased in price more. This is a direct result of the importers of these goods having to pay more to fill their fuel tanks, which has increased the cost of distribution of their product.
Unfortunately, for the consumer there is little that can be done aside from seeking out cheaper alternatives to these expensive products. The mean time is seems that the cost of our everyday consumables is set to rise further, causing more people to make cut backs and be more discerning about the products they buy.
